WESHARE (Empowering businesses to develop energy community models for a successful energy transition) is a project for the development of energy communities in industrial areas, co‑funded through the European LIFE programme.
GISA is participating in the WESHARE initiative, a European project with a duration of 36 months and a total budget of €1,842,060.64.
WESHARE will support the development of energy communities in industrial/business locations across Europe through three pilot projects of industrial energy communities in Getafe (the GETAFE GENERA community), Sines (Portugal) and Antwerp (Belgium).

The project will address the identification of existing legal, social, and organisational barriers, the development of business and financing models, and the creation of specific training for companies, public entities, and promoters of industrial energy communities at the European level.
The project’s actions will be carried out through a consortium of public and private entities with extensive experience in the field of energy communities in Europe, such as the Regional Development Agency of Antwerp (Belgium), the Arrábida Energy and Environment Agency (Portugal), the engineering company Rimond (Italy), the Belgian consultancy LOW, the energy services company Genera (Italy), the Belgian sustainability and innovation centre Klimaatwerf, and the Portuguese business park operator AICEP Global Parques.
The WESHARE project aims to become an international benchmark, positioning GISA at the forefront of promoting industrial energy communities and placing Getafe in a privileged position to successfully address the challenges of the energy transition in the municipality.

The Getafe City Council, through GISA, has established 'Getafe Genera, Industrial Energy Community', a non-profit organization with six local companies, to promote, distribute, and share renewable energy. Among its main objectives, in addition to improving energy efficiency, is sustainability, thereby reducing the city's carbon footprint.

Within the framework of the WESHARE project, we are pleased to publish the Learning Toolkit, a tool designed to support companies, park managers, public authorities and energy agencies in the development and implementation of industrial energy initiatives.
The WESHARE project, in which GISA participates as a partner with the Getafe Genera pilot, is organizing a webinar on December 9th.
The first WESHARE General Assembly took place in Lier, Belgium, on October 13 and 14, 2025, bringing together all project partners to review progress and define the roadmap for the next phase.
