EPIU Project

Getafe Iniciativas (GISA) is participating in the Energy Poverty Intelligence Unit (EPIU) project of the Urban Innovative Actions (UIA) Community Initiative, which aims to address, identify, and combat hidden energy poverty through a pilot project focused on the Las Margaritas and La Alhóndiga neighborhoods. Within the framework of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the European Commission, through the UIA initiative, is promoting the search for and testing of innovative solutions to problems related to sustainable urban development that may be relevant to the European Union as a whole.

The main purpose of the UIA Initiative is to offer urban authorities across Europe spaces and resources to test bold, previously untested ideas to address complex challenges and to analyze how these proposals respond in a real-world context.

From the outset of the project, GISA has assumed coordination tasks, as well as operational and financial monitoring, and has participated in the organization and supervision of the various work packages. It also works directly with the UIA Permanent Secretariat to prepare the monitoring and justification reports required during project implementation.

The project, led by the Getafe City Council, has a consortium made up of the Municipal Land and Housing Company (EMSV), the Carlos III University of Madrid, the Association of Environmental Sciences (ACA), Naturgy Foundation, Khora Urban Thinkers, the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Red Cross Getafe and the Labor Foundation of Construction.

The total budget for the project amounts to €6,227,849.80, of which the European Commission contributes 80%, i.e., €4,982,279.84.
